LIBRARY SERVICES

FREE HIghspeed WiFI

The Library is now a free WiFi Hotspot. Bring in your laptop or PDA

and surf the internet. This service is available 24X7 and can be accessed on the parking lot when the library is closed.

Computerized catalogue

The Library’s collection of permanent materials is catalogued on computer. (To view our catalogue online, select "Catalogue" from the menu to the left of this screen.) If you need assistance in accessing the information you need, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

CIRCULATION PROCEDURES

All holders of a Medina Community Library key tag are entitled to full borrowing privileges subject to the library’s circulation policies and procedures.

Limited borrowing privileges are also extended to Texas residents holding a current Tex Share card from their home library. For details on this program, refer to http://www.texshare.edu/programs/card/circpo/medinapl.html

Interlibrary loan

Materials not in the librarys own collection are often available from other resources through interlibrary loan. Forms are available at the circulation desk, and help is available if you need assistance.

Circulating materials in our own collection are also available for loan upon the request of other libraries within the Bandera County Federated Library System (Lakehills and Bandera).

Copies

Black/white and color copying is available to the public. The price is $.25 per page (b/w), $1.00 per page for color copies.

Faxes

The cost to send or to receive a fax is  $1.00 per page on the library’s dedicated fax line  (830.589.7514).

PUBLIC COMPUTERS

The library owns six OPAC (online public-access) computers.

Before using the OPAC computers for the first time, each person must first complete and sign a form agreeing to the library’s Acceptable Use Internet Policy.

(Note:  If you are under 18, your parent or guardian must also sign this form.)

Thereafter, simply sign in at the circulation desk before each use.

Printing from the OPAC computers on the library’s networked b/w laser printer costs $.25 per page. To make arrangements for color printing, inquire at the desk.

Off-line public computers

Two offline “Children’s Computers,” workstations with a variety of educational computer games installed, are available for use by children under adult supervision.

One of the OPAC computers is designed for handicapped-accessibility. This computer and the workstation in the Texana Room, which contains a number of genealogy software installations, may be reserved in advance. Call the library to make arrangements.

LOCAL AND FAMILY HISTORY

The library is continually building its digital archive of information relating to Medina’s past, including area cemetery records, a digital photo archive, school yearbooks, family folders, and books and other materials relating to local history. We welcome your help in collecting this data.

FACILITY

The library facility is available for use by community groups for meetings and other non-commercial and non-political purposes, as long as these uses and their scheduling present no conflict with library operations or library-sponsored special events. To make arrangements, call during regular hours.

Please note that smoking is prohibited throughout the premises; food and drinks are allowed only in designated areas; alcoholic beverages are not permitted unless prior approval is granted by the Library Board.
